The following is a short skit I wrote based on Genesis 22:1-14.
Please feel free to use as you may, as long as you give proper credit and let me know you how you were able to use my work. Thank You!
Players: Narrator, Young Man, Old Man
Scene: a young man and an old man are center stage. They can be walking in place, or sitting as
if riding in a vehicle, or acting if they are riding an animal of some type.
The narrator stands
off to the side of the stage and provides the story. During the narration, the two travelers are
looking around but avoiding eye contact.
Occasionally one will start to say something, but stops before uttering
a sound. They continue this stalemate
for the entire period of the narration.
Narrator:
A father/son trip.
That is how he explained to his wife and mother of his son. The two would go up into the mountains for a short period of time, perhaps three or four days to bond and to worship the Eternal One.
That is how he explained to his wife and mother of his son. The two would go up into the mountains for a short period of time, perhaps three or four days to bond and to worship the Eternal One.
They left early in the morning for their trip. They took
some supplies and set off for the mountains.
Only the father knew of the plan.
He was to sacrifice his only son, whom he loved dearly to the Eternal
One. He was sure to pack all that he
needed, wood for the fire that would consume his son as a burnt offering and
food for the journey. They said their
goodbyes and traveled for three days and stopped at the base of the
mountains. The next morning, the father
and son left their transportation behind and hiked up into the mountains. The son carried the wood that was to be the
fuel for his sacrificial fire.
As they climbed, the son, young and strong asked his father
an important question. “Father, we have
all we need for our time of worship except the sacrifice itself. What will we sacrifice?”
“The Eternal will provide”, the father answered.
Soon, they stopped and the Father knew they had
arrived. He built an altar out of the
stones found there. He piled the wood on the stones and then turned to his son,
bound him and laid him on the wood on the altar. He reached for a knife to kill his son with,
and raised it above his son.
Before he plunged down with the knife into his son, The
Eternal spoke and commanded the father to stop.
The father had proved his loyalty to the Eternal.
The father heard a noise and saw a ram caught in some
brush. He caught the ram and sacrificed
it instead of his son.
Father and son
continue to look around and avoid each other for a few seconds more.
Son: (Finally
speaking) So…
Father: (after a long pause) So… Whatever you do… DO NOT tell your mother!
